About the Role

As the Sous Chef, you will be the second-in-command in a dynamic kitchen environment, assisting the Head Chef with food preparation, service, and staff management. You'll lead and mentor kitchen staff, ensure food quality and safety standards, and contribute to menu development in a fast-paced restaurant setting.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the Head Chef with all kitchen operations, including food preparation, service, inventory, and staff management.
  • Lead and mentor kitchen staff to ensure high performance, adherence to recipes, and consistency in food quality and presentation.
  • Manage kitchen rosters, delegate tasks, and ensure effective workflow and communication during service.
  • Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with Australian food safety regulations and OH&S standards.
  • Maintain strict stock control, reduce food wastage, and help manage food costs and supplier relationships.

Candidate Requirements

These are the minimum requirements a candidate must meet to be considered for this role.

Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent formal culinary qualification recognized in Australia.

Minimum 3+ years of experience in a leadership role within a busy kitchen environment.

Sound knowledge of food safety (preferably holding a valid Food Safety Supervisor certificate).

Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and train a team in a fast-paced setting.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Passion for food, creativity in the kitchen, and attention to detail.
